Raw Power on the End of the Line
Black Marlin
Best Season
May – October
Weight Range
300 – 1,000+ lbs
Black Marlin are among the largest and most powerful billfish in the world. Unlike blues, blacks are known for their rigid, non-retractable pectoral fins and their tendency to sound deep rather than leap — making them a brutal, grinding fight. Cabo's warm Pacific waters attract blacks during the summer and fall months.
Unique Features
Rigid pectoral fins that cannot be folded flat against the body — the defining ID feature. Darker, more silver-grey colouring than blue marlin. Pound for pound, considered one of the hardest-fighting fish in the ocean.

Cabo's warm offshore waters hold yellowfin year-round, with the biggest fish showing up in summer and fall.

The Fastest Fish in Cabo Waters
Wahoo
Best Season

20 – 100 lbs
Wahoo are the speed demons of the Cabo offshore fishery — capable of bursts exceeding 60 mph, they are one of the fastest fish in the ocean. They hit high-speed trolled lures with savage strikes and make blistering initial runs that can strip hundreds of yards of line in seconds. Wahoo are a winter and spring specialty in Cabo, with the best fishing often found along underwater ridges and drop-offs.
